IAF Conducts 'Wings over Ganges' Aerial Display Marking 94th Anniversary in Varanasi
The Indian Air Force conducted a three-day aerial display titled 'Wings over Ganges' at Namo Ghat in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the force. The demonstration showcased aerial manoeuvres by premier aerobatic and helicopter units alongside frontline fighter and rotary-wing aircraft, including the Sukhoi-30 MKI, the indigenous Tejas, and the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand. In addition, the Surya Kiran aerobatic team and the Sarang helicopter display team performed precision formations, joined by Kiran aircraft and Mi-17 helicopters carrying the national flag.
Relevance for Civil Services Examination
The operational demonstration of aerial power relates directly to General Studies Paper III under internal security, modernisation of the armed forces, and indigenisation of defence technology. Public air displays featuring indigenous platforms such as the Tejas fighter and the LCH Prachand highlight operational capabilities, indigenous manufacturing milestones, and national air-defence readiness. The inclusion of industrial initiatives in the region also touches upon industrial decentralisation and employment generation.
