What new technological advancements are being introduced across India's transportation and transit sectors?
India is introducing several key technological advancements and infrastructure initiatives across its transportation, transit, and aviation sectors:
1. Aviation & Digital Passenger Processing
International Digi Yatra Trials: Digi Yatra has initiated trials for international passengers across seven major airports (Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai, and Amritsar).

e-Passport & Biometric Integration: The system utilizes e-passports with embedded NFC chips, Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) scanning, and facial recognition selfies to build a Verifiable Credential stored in the passenger's mobile wallet. This enables contactless biometric validation across airport entry points, security hold areas, and boarding gates.
2. High-Speed Rail & Next-Generation Trains
Swadeshi Bullet Train Design: India's first indigenous (Swadeshi) bullet train design is complete, with fast-paced manufacturing underway at BEML in Bengaluru.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains: Modern semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Sleeper trains (including the Bengaluru–Mumbai and Varanasi–New Delhi routes) have been launched to enhance long-distance passenger travel.
Northern Bullet Train Corridor: Approval has been granted for a ~1,500 km high-speed rail corridor connecting Delhi to Guwahati via Siliguri, passing through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam, cutting Delhi–Siliguri travel time from 20 hours down to 6 hours.

3. Urban Mass Transit & Fleet Digitization
Mass Public Transit Expansion: Urban transit is expanding through Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS), expanded metro networks, and electric buses (e-buses).
Smart Transit Initiatives: Measures include digitizing urban bus fleets, integrating last-mile/shared mobility, adopting Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), and implementing traffic demand management like congestion pricing.
4. AI-Driven Smart Traffic Systems
Artificial Intelligence Surveillance: Municipalities are implementing AI-enabled CCTV infrastructure (such as Chandigarh's deployment of 2,152 AI cameras) alongside mobile apps (like the Beat Policing App) to automate traffic management, monitor flow, and minimize congestion.
5. Multimodal Logistics & Freight Networks
Multimodal Logistics Parks: High-tech freight hubs, such as the 150-acre Multimodal Logistics Park at Sindi Railway in Wardha, are being constructed to link local agricultural and industrial goods directly to port networks for efficient international export.
