Following the devastating flash floods, India has mobilised substantial humanitarian aid and search-and-rescue support to assist Nepal:

  • Immediate Response: The first tranche of relief materials was dispatched by India just hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Nepalese counterpart, Balendra Shah, on August 26, 2026, the day the flash floods struck. Prime Minister Modi assured Nepal of all possible humanitarian assistance to navigate the crisis.

  • Scale of Aid: India has delivered a total of 68.5 tonnes of relief materials to Nepal.

  • The Fifth Tranche: Most recently, a fifth Indian aircraft departed for Nepal carrying 5.5 tonnes of essential medicines and an 11-member rescue team equipped with specialised gear.

  • Specialised Personnel: In addition to search-and-rescue teams, India has sent a team of doctors and paramedics, as well as a technical contingent supplied with equipment dedicated to search-and-rescue operations.
